Soleil West's Technical Experience:

Soleil West’s successful production of planning and architectural documents relies on the firms efficient use of the most current technology and computer software. Within the office, team members are constantly working within many technical forums; whether it be drafting with the most current version of AutoCAD, generating building energy-models with Trane TRACE, or designing with creative databases such as the Adobe Creative Suite. At Soleil West, we utilize technology and computer software to our fullest ability in order to achieve maximum efficiency and accuracy for our projects and our clients. In 2006, Soleil West graduated its drafting practices to the National CAD Standard. All Soleil West employees are trained in the National CAD Standard (Version 3.1).

In 2009, Soleil West became a LEED accredited firm. Soleil West has worked on three LEED projects over the past two years: Kit Carson Elementary School Administration Building and Art/Music Classroom, the NMHU Natatorium Remodel, and the NMHU Lora Shields Remodel.

Soleil West also recently acquired Autodesk Revit, and is currently in the process of training its employees to utilize this new design tool. By implementing a Building Information Modeling (BIM) tool in the office, Soleil West will be able to better coordinate with all facets of a project’s design, including civil engineering and architectural elements, as well as structural, mechanical and electrical components. It is the goal of Soleil West for its employees to be fully trained in Revit by the end of 2010.

Soleil West's Environmental Design & LEED Experience:

With the growing importance of architectural sustainability, Soleil West has become an avid contributor to environmentally conscious design, and Kevin Balciar and Sandra Johnson are both LEED Accredited Professionals (BD+C).

At Soleil West, every project, whether it is to become LEED certified or not, employs recycled materials, sustainable strategies. and energy efficient mechanical and electrical systems. We pride ourselves in giving the New Mexico community buildings that respond to and respect the environment, without sacrificing the integrity of the design.

We have used both passive and active solar heating and power strategies for our buildings, as well as integrated water catchment systems to harvest rainwater for irrigation purposes.
Soleil West specifies recycled materials for all buildings. We typically use steel studs, which contain at least 65 % recycled material, concrete containing fly ash, ceramic tile made from broken fluorescent lamps, and carpet containing at least 25% recycled content.

Although not every project is required to become LEED certified, sustainable design is always the priority for Soleil West's projects.
